Diana’s commitment to the community
Diana’s political commitment is rooted in her work as a community volunteer. She has been an active and effective worker in the community since she and Mike moved their family to Clayton Park in 1990.
· Founding member and Chair - Clayton Park West Homeowners Association
· Member of the Parish Council– St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Birch Cove
· Member, Overcrowding, and Busing Committees - Grosvenor Wentworth Park School
· Chair, Parent School Association and Spring Fair Coordinator - Rockingham School
· Board Member - Dalhousie University Alumni Association
· Area Leader / Canvasser - Heart Fund
· Founder and Chair - Mainland North New School Action Committee (successful in lobbying government for a new Park West School)
In 2000 Diana was elected as the HRM Councillor for District 16, Clayton Park West, Rockingham, Prince’s Lodge. Among her accomplishments on Council were:
· the establishment of a Planning Advisory Committee to review new developments
· Founding the first Mainland Commons Recreation Centre Committee to organize the efforts to replace Northcliffe with a new Recreation Centre
· Improvements to the the Lacewood interchange including a much needed sidewalk to Bayer’s Lake. · Change in standards for crosswalks which resulted in many new crosswalks being added in Clayton Park
· Completion of two community murals in cooperation with the Rockingham Heritage Society
· Getting Council approved for a $300,000 contribution to a theatre in Halifax West High School, which is currently being completed by the community.
· Convincing HRM Council to provide land, roads and services for the Halifax West High School which supported the community efforts to secure a new school.
Diana has served on the Neptune Theatre Board, the Centennial Rink Commission, and the Halifax Library Board and the Immigration Partnership Committee. She is currently a member of the Halifax North West Trails Association.
